Pet Peeves: Sunday Evening Edition

While I can't deny that they are both talented photographers, Scott Schuman & Garance Dore come across as one superficial, super-pretentious super-couple in this NY Mag article from last week:

Why, you ask? Maybe it's because she refers to him as her weight loss coach and gushes about the Kiehl's special oil face massages he gives her every night. Or maybe it's because Schuman nonchalantly passes comments like "We bought them at Celine in Rome...they look really great" in reference to Dore's pants. We? Not sure why that bothers me so much, but it's not like they're a sofa or end table. I mean does Scott wear them on the weekends? If so, I'll retract my statement, but given the extra inches Garance has on him, I'm doubtful.

via Refinery29...not sure why a woman like this needs a "weight loss coach"

At any rate, my ick factor is a little high after reading this dual profile. Too harsh?

Pet Peeves: A Brief Venting

So you may not know this about me, but I despise cover songs. I understand when you're at a concert and the band chooses to play a few covers for fun. Totally acceptable. I've nodded along to a few and experienced the excited "I can't believe they know this song!" in my head. But when I'm driving around and I hear a cover on the radio, I can't change the station fast enough. Most--not all, but most covers are not good. There are few that I can tolerate (like this) but I just can't like a cover because my principles are screaming at me not to. I mean come on, it's like saying a photocopy is better than a painting. A lot of it is the sheer lack of creativity on the artist's part. And 99.9% of the time, the cover butchers the original. Then there's also 85% of the time (I'm being generous) when the cover slaughters/murders/decapitates/mutilates/guts/destroys the original so badly that you are traumatized and can no longer listen to the Go Gos without hearing stupid Hilary Duff. But mostly, the reason I hate cover songs is because somewhere along the lines, originals get forgotten and instead of saying "I like that Don Henley song," kids are saying, "That Ataris song is awesome!" Or even worse, one day some little turd will hear the original Don Henley and say "Whose this old guy that's trying to sing Boys of Summer???"

**I apologize for the overly morbid words but I just really hate covers. And I realize the Ataris/Don Henley is an outdated example, but in my head it's up there as one of the worst, coming in second to Jessica Simpson's take on Berlin. There are tons more that I'm forgetting at the moment, but you must have an opinion. What do you think is the worst cover of all time?

Pet Peeves

Ever have one of those days where everything irritates you? Well, as a result of one of those, I've compiled a list of pet peeves. I hope none of you are offended. With that said, here it is:
  • Men who go into lingerie stores, especially by themselves. Being on your girlfriends arm doesn't make it much better though. I'm not a prude, I just find this extremely tacky. If you really want to buy your girlfriend a present, shop online...
  • People who go out in public in their pajamas/sweats (the grocery store and random off days are forgivable). Also, when said girls are in full glamazon makeup. So you had 45 minutes to cake on all that makeup, but you couldn't throw on some clean clothes?
  • "What I wore" blogs. I can't deny that I frequent a good amount of fashion blogs (or at least used to) most of which fall into the "what I wore" category. I can't tell you how obnoxious it is to post 5+ pictures of yourself in the same outfit staring off into space trying to look strung out, and then do the same thing the following day, and the next, and the next...I can appreciate an outfit post here and there, but come on girls! Put yourself to better use. There is much more to life than fabulous clothes.
  • When people use lolspeak in real life. I just found out this was called "lolspeak" a few weeks ago-- thanks Flickr.
  • Girls that knowingly flirt with other girls boyfriends. This one's pretty self explanatory.
  • Girls who say they're "one of the guys". If you feel the need to make this proclamation, you aren't.
  • When people list magazines under the Favorite Books section on facebook. Even worse: "I don't read", "books? what are those??", etc. I don't judge people about what they read, but to those that brag about being illiterate, shame on you. Pick up a book and grow a brain.
  • When people don't know the difference between "your" and "you're." We learned this in 3rd grade. It really isn't that hard.
There are probably more, but for now, that was therapeutic. Again, I'm sorry if anyone was offended by anything on this list.
